Hello, I'm Dr Ekaterina K.
I have wanted to become a scientist ever since I was 4 years old. Biology, biochemistry, and medical research have always been my passion. I finished my medical training in 2002 as a GP and specialised in infant feeding and human lactation. Ever since, I have been working as an infant feeding consultant and an online tutor, training medical professionals and helping them improve their knowledge in that field. Another passion of mine is nutrition. This inspired me to get my professional certificate in nutrition and its role in disease prevention from Wageningen University. Apart from the science related aspects of nutrition, I also love cooking. I used to develop recipes for a local health food store's magazine and worked as a chief in a vegan cafe. Becoming a certified Health Coach has been a great addition to my theoretical knowledge. During my training I have learned how to make right changes and how to make those changes sustainable. Due to this experience, I decided to specialise in lifestyle diseases and cancer prevention. I was shocked to learn that at least 50 percent of all cancer cases are preventable and only 5-10 percent are gene dependent. I want to live in a world where avoidable suffering and preventable diseases are minimised, so I hope that attention towards lifestyle medicine will grow to be wide-spread and become a part of the global approach to maintaining people's health.

A major strength of my prevention of cancer and lifestyle disease program is that it is universal. It is a general program aimed at working towards optimal health. Jana S, a 38 year old mother of 3, has ADHD which significantly impacts her life. She was struggling with her weight gain, lack of energy, binge eating, worsening health problems, and had no faith in her ability to make long-term lifestyle changes, as her previous attempts had always been unsuccessful. She faced many difficulties when trying to focus on any health goal because of her ADHD. However, after 8 sessions she didn't just lose weight, but also managed to completely change her diet and fitness routine. What’s your approach? Why might I like working with you?
I have been working with people throughout my entire life and find it to be incredibly enjoyable and fulfilling. I love the challenge of helping other people through their issues and the rewarding feeling after witnessing their success. I have never, and will never, stop studying and expanding my knowledge to ensure that my work is truly reliable and evidence based. I aim to make my approach as practical as possible, with focus on developing a personalised plan of action, created according to your needs, ensuring that it is realistic enough to follow independently, after the completion of the course. I am committed to complete honesty and transparency with my clients, and ensure that I treat everybody in a non-judgemental way with equal respect, patience, and understanding.
What’s your story and why are you a Health Coach?
Being a medical student over 25 years ago, I used to spend my summers working in a cardiology department. As enjoyable as the experience was, I couldn't help but feel a constant frustration over seeing the same patients coming back to the hospital over and over again. I wanted to do more than just temporarily managing their symptoms. I have always been passionate about a lifestyle with special attention to fitness and nutrition, so after doing a considerable amount of research, I became very inspired by the great potential of lifestyle medicine. However, among others, my biggest discovery was the fact that merely sharing the right information with people is neither helpful, nor an effective way to support their growth. When I came across health coaching, I felt I found the formula for success - combining relevant, evidence-based recommendations with ongoing coaching, personalised support, and a tailored plan for each client. This job has helped me learn more, grow more as a person, and support other individuals more than I ever have in the past.
